RF Microneedling What is the Pixel8-RF Microneedling?

Radio Frequency (RF) microneedling is a non-surgical procedure with little to no downtime and is now considered “the newest essential” for a successful aesthetic practice.

The PiXel8-RF uses bi-polar, RF energy alongside minimally invasive microneedles to facilitate effective, non-surgical, skin tightening with little to no downtime. While RF microneedling is not as painful as other invasive treatments, patients still need a numbing cream to keep them comfortable. During the treatment, heat is driven deep within the skin layers with the microneedling device to stimulate and remodel collagen and cause elastin cells to regenerate. This results in a firmer, smoother, and more consistent skin surface.

The PiXel8-RF was developed to combat the signs of aging. The PiXel8-RF is suited for all skin types, and after a single treatment, most patients notice that the area treated is smoother and softer. The amount of energy delivered into the tissue is adjustable, and the micro-needles can be adjusted from .5mm up to 3.5mm to address each patient’s needs. The PiXel8-RF uses a unique design for tissue coagulation and hemostasis that may improve fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks and striae.

What our Patients Say:

“I recently had the microneedling done and of course, I was quite nervous at the thought of tiny needles being injected into my face. However the team there was amazing and very reassuring and walk me through the entire process from start to finish. The results within two days were remarkable to me. I wanted my pores to be much smaller so that my make up would lay better and my skin texture would improve and it absolutely delivered just that! And with no “down time”, I would totally do it again and I strongly recommend it to anyone that’s looking for a pain-free way to get smoother textures and smaller pores and that “dewey” complexion we all love. THANK YOU!!!”
– Sheila M 11/8/18

“I recently had the RF microneedling done. I was nervous because I did not know what to expect since it was my first time. However, the staff was amazing, reassuring, and helpful. They explained the process thoroughly. I bought four sessions. I saw the results very quickly. My face felt renewed! I noticed smaller pores, improved skin texture, and less noticeable wrinkles. Best of all, No downtime was necessary. Thank you and Thank you, Krista Clementine, you are the best!!!”
– Wendy G 2/24/19

“I have been happy with Spa Aesthetica’s services for years. I did a package of 4 treatments. My cheeks are filled more and I see more volume. My face doesn’t feel flat. I notice that my face has more volume than my friends. The texture of my skin has improved and I notice my pores are smaller as well. My lips are plumper and lifted. It looks like I had fillers done!”

RF Microneedling is great for acne scars and skin tightening:

How Does the Treatment Work?

The PiXel8-RF provides precise and controlled coagulation and hemostasis deep within the dermis to help stimulate collagen, providing dramatic skin tightening and rejuvenation.

Microneedling creates micro-injuries in the skin tissues, triggering the body’s wound-healing process. This results in the repair of old and damaged skin and the growth of newer skin cells. This, when coupled with radiofrequency energy delivered to the deeper dermis, improves the rejuvenation process.

The microneedle depth can be adjusted for each treatment area, allowing customized treatments to delicate areas, such as under the eyes, the forehead, and cheekbones.

What Are the Benefits of Pixel-8 RF Microneedling?

PiXel8-RF offers the benefits of enhanced production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This addresses hyperpigmentation, along with wrinkles and acne scars, and improves skin texture.

Patients can expect visible tightening, toning, and skin lifting after the treatment.

Among the benefits of RF microneedling is it gives the skin a radiant complexion. The procedure also reverses skin damage due to UV rays.

PiXel8-RF is minimally invasive, so patients do not need to undergo surgery or experience long periods of painful downtime. The procedure can be paired with other suitable modalities to address multiple concerns.

Can It Be Used On All Skin Types?

Yes. Unlike laser treatments, the PiXel8-RF uses only radio frequency energy. The micro needles precisely deliver the RF energy into the dermis tissues. There is virtually no thermal damage to the epidermis and almost eliminates the risk of PIH (post inflammatory hyper pigmentation) in dark skin types. Therefore, it is safe to use on all skin types and all colors of skin.

Am I a Good Candidate for RF Microneedling?

RF microneedling is safe for candidates in good overall health who are showing early signs of aging, such as wrinkles, fine lines, and skin laxity.

It is not a good option for people who are currently treating severe acne with isotretinoin. This prescription drug affects wound healing, so patients taking it risk scarring and keloids if they undergo RF microneedling.

People with skin infections, active cold sore breakouts, and psoriasis may not be considered for RF microneedling treatments. These skin conditions may complicate inflammation and may further spread bacteria.

Those taking anticoagulants may need to consult with their doctor before considering an RF microneedling treatment. These medications are prescribed to prevent blood clotting, especially for patients with heart disease, and may risk excessive bleeding during an RF microneedling session.

What Is the Difference Between Traditional Microneedling and RF Microneedling?

In conventional microneedling, a handheld device with tiny needles is rolled over the skin to create micro-injuries. This process stimulates the body’s natural wound-healing response. New growth factors produce new collagen and tissue in the skin, resulting in tauter skin with improved texture and appearance.

RF microneedling utilizes this same process while also including the application of radiofrequency energy, making it superior to the traditional method. The microneedles deliver RF energy to the deeper dermis. The heat produced in this lower layer of skin boosts the process of collagen rejuvenation.

Through this combination of techniques, the PiXel8-RF produces dramatic results and transforms skin in a shorter period than traditional microneedling. It also remodels scars and wrinkles more effectively since it can break up hard and damage skin tissues.

Additionally, PiXel8-RF allows for greater precision of results by offering customization of needle length and energy intensity depending on the patient’s requirements.

Pros and Cons of RF Microneedling

Pros

  • Enhanced skin texture and firmness – RF microneedling stimulates collagen production, improving the elasticity and smoothness of your skin.
  • Effective for various skin issues – This treatment can reduce the appearance of scars, wrinkles, and pores.
  • Minimal downtime – Most patients experience little to no disruption to their daily activities, making it a convenient option.
  • Safe for most skin types – RF microneedling is generally safe for all skin types, including darker skin tones, where some laser treatments may not be suitable.
  • Long-term results – With a proper treatment plan, results can be long-lasting, improving skin quality over time.

Cons

  • Temporary discomfort – Some patients may experience mild pain during the treatment, akin to a rubber band snapping against the skin.
  • Initial redness and swelling – Common side effects include redness and swelling that typically resolve within 24 hours.
  • Multiple sessions required – For optimal results, multiple sessions may be necessary, depending on your specific skin concerns and goals.
  • Not suitable for everyone – It is not recommended for those with certain skin conditions or pregnant women. Your consultation will help determine if RF microneedling is right for you.

Your RF Microneedling Consultation

An RF microneedling consultation involves a detailed discussion of appearance goals. Skin varies from person to person, and the results from the treatment may not be the same for everyone. Our skin experts will advise you on the results your skin can achieve from RF microneedling.

Provide your complete medical history, including current prescriptions, to help determine whether the treatment will be safe for your skin and overall health. Dr. Reichner will advise you on what medications or supplements to stop taking to reduce the risks during and after the procedure.

How to Prepare for an RF Microneedling Session

Two weeks before your RF microneedling session, you must avoid over-exfoliation, waxing, shaving, and direct sun exposure to prevent skin irritation during treatment. Keep your skin and body well-hydrated days before your session to maintain your skin’s natural moisture balance and aid in recovery. Avoid consuming alcohol at least 24 hours before the procedure, as alcohol can increase inflammation and swelling.

On the day of your session, wash your face with a gentle cleanser, and do not wear any makeup. You must also skip applying lotion, perfume, serums, and moisturizers prior to treatment.

Avoid planning any major events right after your session, as your skin may appear slightly red or swollen. Have a light, healthy meal before your appointment. It can help you feel comfortable and prevent any light-headedness during the session.

Is There Downtime After The Procedure?

One of the best things about RF microneedling is that patients usually experience minimal to no downtime and have few restrictions following a RF microneedling treatment. The treated area may be red for up to 24 hours.

However, a deeper, more aggressive treatment may be required for your desired outcome. This may increase downtime.

What Should I Expect After The Treatment?

After the treatment, most patients will experience redness and some minor swelling. This usually subsides within 24 hours or less. After 24 hours, the patient may apply makeup and other skin care products to the treatment area.

How Long Does A Treatment Take And How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The procedure itself takes approximately 20 minutes. However, the treatment area will have to be prepared, which may take an additional 30 minutes. Obvious results are normally seen after just one treatment. However, to help achieve the maximum benefit, a three-treatment series is suggested, with each treatment four weeks apart.

How Long Do Results Last?

This is a difficult question and will be different for each patient. The collagen created will last at least seven years. However, the amount of collagen varies and depends on the overall skin health, patient’s health, smoking habits, age, tanning, sun exposure, and lifestyle. It is usually recommended that a “touchup” be performed every 12-18 months.

What Kind of Skin Conditions Can the Pixel8-RF Treat?

It can be used for a wide array of dermatological procedures including:

  • Skin Tightening
  • Wrinkle Reduction
  • Acne Scar Improvement
  • Skin Tone & Texture Improvement
  • Pore Reduction
  • Scar Reduction
  • Stretch Mark Reduction
